Windfall Aggregate – Aggregate Supply by Rail to the Edmonton Marketplace

The Windfall Gravel Pit is located approximately 220 km northwest of Edmonton, 50 km north of Whitecourt, Alberta. The Windfall Aggregate reserve is enough to supply the Edmonton market for many years. The first rail car was loaded on May 1st, 2008 and to date the gravel shipped by rail has taken the equivalent of roughly 24,000 trucks off the highway. Loading has been done manually by way of 2 operators on front end loaders using bucket scales to ensure weight accuracy. This process will become more automated when our loading facility is completed this year. Construction of rail tracks and siding at the location was complete in May of 2008 with construction of rail load out ( tipple ) and stock pile feed conveyors completed in September. Loading operations are expected to be completed by spring of 2009, which will make the Windfall Gravel Pit a state of the art facility giving the Works Alberta group of companies the ability to supply aggregates by rail to markets throughout the province and Standard General the ability to continue to serve the Edmonton market for years to come.
